Kenwood MURS radios have spent years proving themselves to be the highest quality, reliable and cost-effective choice for radios in almost every application. These radios have a wide variety of features to meet the needs of the most discriminating analog user.
Kenwood has the solution to provide the way to accomplish the task with quality, reliability, integrity and cost effectiveness. Welcome to the world of Kenwood, known around the world for their innovation in audio, security, industrial and radio communications.
Businesses that have benefited from Kenwood radios:
The MURS frequency radios operate on unlicensed frequencies, therefore there is no requirement for the user to obtain an FCC license for legal operation. However, there are certain limitations as to the use of these frequencies. Most use these days is for business use for on site short range communications, however, personal use of these frequencies is permitted. Both base station and mobile radios are permitted with a base station antenna height no more than 60’ above ground or 20’ above the roof, however, base and mobile use of the frequencies is not very common. Therefore, we are only presenting portable Walkie Talkie radios and not the mobile and base station options. The MURS radio frequencies are similar to the use of FRS frequencies, except that the MURS frequencies are VHF and the FRS frequencies are UHF. The VHF frequencies generally work better outdoors in rural areas than the UHF radios and will provide better range, especially in hilly areas.
MURS comprises the following five frequencies:
Channel | Frequency | Maximum authorized bandwidth |
Channel name |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 151.82 MHz | 11.25 kHz | MURS 1 |
2 | 151.88 MHz | 11.25 kHz | MURS 2 |
3 | 151.94 MHz | 11.25 kHz | MURS 3 |
4 | 154.57 MHz | 20.00 kHz | Blue Dot |
5 | 154.60 MHz | 20.00 kHz | Green Dot |
All MURS operations are simplex meaning that the radios talk directly from one radio to another without the help of any infrastructure to increase the range of the radios. The range of the radios is dependent upon the terrain and is discussed in the article about FRS radios and is also discussed in the article “How Far Will My Radio Talk?”
